Who We Are
The McAlester Association for Global Interconnections — MAGIC — is a community-led organization formed to strengthen McAlester’s international relationships through cultural exchange, education, and global partnership.
MAGIC is made up of local volunteers, educators, business leaders, and civic partners working together to connect McAlester with communities around the world in ways that celebrate heritage, promote understanding, and create new opportunities for residents.
Our first major initiative is forming a Sister City partnership with Midleton, Ireland, rooted in the historic relationship between Ireland and the Choctaw Nation. While this partnership is our starting point, MAGIC’s long-term vision is to expand the Sister Cities program to include additional communities — both internationally and domestically — as the organization grows.
What Are Sister Cities?
Sister Cities International is a network that connects communities across borders through citizen-level partnerships. A Sister City relationship formalizes the bonds of friendship between two communities, opening doors for cultural exchange, educational collaboration, tourism, and community projects that enrich both sides.
These partnerships are not just symbolic — they create real opportunities for people-to-people connections, student exchanges, business relationships, and shared celebrations that bring communities together across the world.
MAGIC serves as McAlester’s Sister Cities organization, managing partnerships and creating programming that brings these international connections to life for our community.
Our Mission
MAGIC exists to build meaningful, lasting connections between McAlester, Oklahoma and communities around the world. We believe that international friendship strengthens our community, broadens perspectives, and creates opportunities for cultural, educational, and economic growth.
We are committed to preserving and celebrating cultural heritage, focusing on education and youth engagement, emphasizing community-led growth, building long-term personal relationships rather than symbolic partnerships, and creating authentic cultural tourism and visitor experiences.
